Christmas and New Year

We have just uploaded some photos of Martina - Luis and Marianna's daughter.  On the 19th December she turned 1 with her two little teeth and her first few and unsure steps!

We spent a very quiet christmas enjoying the company of Edus family.  In our spare moments we were in our house setting up the kitchen cabnets etc. and just trying to move things along.  New Years was also very quiet but just what we needed.

Now we are preparing for the most eagerly awaited visit of the year - The Three Wise Kings, which arrive tonight!!!!  All the kids are excited and preparing to go to the parade where they will be thrown lollies of all shapes and sizes from the magical KINGS!  This is the best time to do your last minute shopping as all of the shops are finally empty and free of the chaotic survival challange - were stressed parents push you out of their way to buy all of the 5000 gifts that their children asked the kings for.  It is exactly like all of the other countries which celebrate Santa Claus but with a few weeks difference.

Once that chaos is over, we will meet at Edus mothers house with all of his brothers and sisters (except Jaito, who has already returned to Denmark).  There we will finally unvail the secret santas!

In a few weeks we will have another public holiday - San Sebastian, which is the patron city of Palma.  On that day the town hall sets up hundreds of grills in all of the "Plazas" around the city, where you can grill the typical chorizos, xot, sausages and whatever else you want to eat.  There are also concerts in all of the "Plazas", and its is a lot of fun.

So, we hope that you all have enjoyed the holidays to some extent and we are wishing you a wonderful year and keep smiling!

Renovations......

Because we are living in such an old house (over 100 yrs old), we have decided to start some greatly needed renovations.  A friend of Dione's from work has been chosen to go through with the kitchen renovation, and we have been helping him out.

We have a well under the kitchen.  We have never been too sure  of the size of the well nor where the water comes from as there is not much, so we have braved it into the well with a torch and a camera to investigate!  We have discovered a beautiful almost 3x7m room with an arched roof.  Now the plan is to block off all pipes which lead into the well and make an opening to the garden!  Then the well will be turned into a wine celler!

It is amazing what you can find in these old houses.  Edu's father and uncle recall a room under the house which was used as a bunker during the war!  This may be it!

Other than this discovery, the house is a very big dusty mess!  Now we have to start choosing kitchens, floor tiles, etc.....

Time goes on.......

Time is moving on and it is high time to add some photos and info of what has been going on!

This summer (July/August) Edu and myself flew back to Australia for a visit.  It was a great get-away.  Our friends Marc and his partner Rebecca also came, and they loved it!  While in Aus we were on the go the whole time with family, on small trips, camping, excursions.....

It was very special being able to catch up with family and friends who we/I havnt seen for many years and who we probably wont see again until our next trip home  (dont know when that will be).

After enjoying almost 4 weeks in Australia, we headed up to my place of birth - Rabaul, Papua New Guinea.  This was the highlight of the trip.  It has been 14 years since I had been in PNG, and so much has changed with the erruptions of the volcanos in 1992 and the whole town having moved to Kokopo.

It was so special having been able to see what DOES still exist, and what has been saved.  It is nothing like it was before, the feeling is completly different, yet it is still so special.

Hope you enjoy the photos.........

THANKS....

The day has passed and it was absolutly wonderful.  We have enjoyed every minute of it all with so many visits from all over the world where we counted up to 14 different nationalities at least.

Once things calm down and we have a moment, we will give the big low-down on the whole day, with photos.

Thanks so much to those who made it and also to those who couldnt but who were there in heart.  It was so special to us both to have the support of those people who are just so special in our lives.
